What is the difference between GATE and TAGS?
Students that score in the 98%ile or higher on the test qualify for GATE. GATE is a program in all CCSD elementary schools. GATE students receive a minimum of 150 minutes a week of instruction by the GATE teacher.
Students scoring 90%ile- 97%ile qualify for TAGS services. TAGS students only receive services if they are in a CCSD Title I school. TAGS students receive a minimum of 50 minutes of instruction a week by the GATE teacher.
Students can't lose their GATE or TAGS identification once it is established unless the parent requests to move the student through the removal process. TAGS Students will not receive services if they are at a school that is not Title I.
How is my child graded?
All GATE and TAGS students are graded on the CCSD GATE Progress Report. The progress report is a rubric grading the students on a scale of 1-4, four being the highest score a student can earn. There are ten areas on the rubric that include topics such as time management (being on task), flexible thinking, and generating multiple solutions to a problem and then selecting the best solution. Students will be graded on their in-class work. All students have been shown the rubric and participated on an in-class discussion. Progress reports will be sent home twice a year with report cards. Students will be tracking their GATE grades in class when conferencing with the teacher.
